When: 08:45am. Kickstands up at 09:00am.
Place: Meet in parking lot of Maverik Adventure's First Stop (gas station)
at 8810 N Pecos St, Thornton, CO 80260
IMPORTANT: RSVP to Victor ASAP because reservations are required.
The new Visitor Center & restaurant at the top is popular, so we are
basically making reservations for parking spaces at the top. And those reservations
are limited in number, and are sold ON-LINE ($2 ea.) so we have to be early!
Ride Plan: Get there fast, and then take it slow.
There is a new restaurant atop Pike's Peak which I have not visited yet, which is getting good reviews.
This also provides us with an excellent alternative to a "regular picnic" as it can sometimes be windy at the top.
We will "boogie" down I-25 and head to the Subway sandwich shop in Manitou Springs
(302 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829). We should arrive there a little after 10:30am.
This will serve as a (leg-stretcher) rest stop before we head up the mountain,
and as well can provide food for anyone who wants to bring their own.
Then we will head up to Pike's Peak (ETA 12:30pm) and
1. enjoy a great meal with great company, and
2. you can stay up there for as long as you like.
(Note: the park rangers encourage people to head down by 3pm or so
so as to be able to be out of the gate by 5pm or so).
Groups riding back together can be organized at the top.
